Some things land differently out loud than they do written down. “I’m proud of you” reads fine on a screen. Hearing it, in the actual voice of the actual person who means it, is a different thing entirely. So starting today, every note you write can carry a voice recording too — not instead of text, alongside it, or in place of it if that’s what a particular day calls for.
How it works
When you’re writing a note, there’s now a record button sitting right next to the text box. Tap it, say what you want to say, tap it again to stop. You get a preview before you save — listen back, re-record if you fumbled it, or just delete it and type instead. Nothing’s locked in until you’re happy with it.
A recording can run up to three minutes, which is more room than you’ll need for almost anything. Most of the best ones we’ve heard are ten or fifteen seconds — long enough for the thing you actually meant to say, short enough that it doesn’t turn into a monologue.
It works with everything else a note can already have. Text and a voice recording together. A photo and a voice recording together. All three at once. Or just the recording, if the moment doesn’t need any words typed out at all.
What the other person gets
No app to download, no account to make. The recording just plays right on the note itself, the same place they’ve always read your notes — a small player sits on the card, and they tap it whenever they’re ready to listen. If they get their notes by email, the email lets them know a voice note is waiting and links straight back to it, since audio doesn’t really play inside an inbox.
Why we built this
Typing is good. Typing is what most of this has been from the start, and it’s not going anywhere. But there’s a real difference between a person reading “happy anniversary, I love you” and a person hearing you actually say it, a little rough around the edges, maybe laughing partway through. That version doesn’t get old the way a written line can. We wanted that to be an option, not a whole separate product — so it’s just sitting right there in the note you were already going to write.
